Light snowfall is expected to fall between 11:15 p.m. and 5:45 a.m., with varying precipitation levels that may create challenging conditions during morning commutes.

Timeline of Snowfall Intensity:

  • 11:15 p.m. – 12:30 a.m.: Light to moderate snow (Precipitation Level: 0.7-3).
  • 12:30 a.m. – 2:15 a.m.: Peak intensity, with a Precipitation Level of 3–4, expected to create slippery roadways and reduced visibility.
  • 2:15 a.m. – 3:30 a.m.: Snow tapers off slightly, dropping to lighter levels (0.7–2), but flurries remain steady.
  • 5:15 a.m. – 5:45 a.m.: Snow makes a brief resurgence at moderate levels (2).

Advisory Details:

The National Weather Service has issued a Wind Advisory for the area, warning of gusts that may exacerbate the winter weather conditions. Drivers should exercise caution during increased snowfall, especially between 12:30 a.m. and 2:15 a.m.

New City Couple Sentenced for Murder of Grandfather

New City, NY – Rockland County District Attorney Thomas E. Walsh II announced the sentencing of two individuals in connection with the brutal murder of 85-year-old Constantinos Mastakouris.

Constantinos Doonan, a/k/a “Dino” (DOB 7/17/92), and Jo-Ann Haughey (DOB 1/15/96), both of New City, were sentenced for their roles in the killing of Mastakouris, who was Doonan’s grandfather. Doonan received a sentence of 20 years to life in state prison for second-degree murder, a class “A” felony. Haughey was sentenced to 15 years for first-degree manslaughter, a class “B” felony.

The crime occurred between January 29 and 30, 2023, at Mastakouris’ home at 45 Ruth Drive in New City. According to authorities, Doonan and Haughey strangled Mastakouris to death. After the murder, they concealed his body in a crawl space in the basement, wrapping it in a tablecloth, kiddie pool, and shower curtain. The pair then stole the victim’s belongings, including his car, jewelry, and credit card.

“The killing of one’s grandfather is evil and an unimaginable act,” said District Attorney Walsh. “The actions of the defendants have left their family completely shattered by this horrific act. The defendants are being held fully accountable for their crimes and will serve lengthy prison terms.”

The case was investigated by the Clarkstown Police Department. Deputy Chief Assistant District Attorney Dominic Crispino and Supervising Assistant District Attorney Sharleen Bailon prosecuted the case.

Doonan and Haughey were sentenced on December 3, 2024.

Temperatures will reach a high of 38°F under partly sunny skies. As night falls, a 50% chance of snow looms, with mostly cloudy conditions and a low of around 30°F. Residents should be cautious of potential slippery conditions overnight.

Thursday: A Mix of Rain and Sunshine
Rain may briefly interrupt the clear weather pattern, with a 30% chance of precipitation before 1 p.m. The rest of the day will turn mostly sunny, with highs near 42°F. The night will cool down to 24°F under partly cloudy skies.

Friday and Saturday: A Deep Freeze to End the Week
By Friday, the cold intensifies, with highs struggling to reach 31°F under mostly sunny skies. Nighttime lows will dip to 21°F. Saturday brings similar conditions, with sunny skies and highs near 32°F.

Preparing for the Chill
Residents are encouraged to dress in layers, wear head warmers, limit time outdoors, and take precautions to stay warm. Make sure to protect pets, keep pipes insulated, and have emergency supplies ready in case of snow-related disruptions.
