Emergency Rental Assistance Program (ERAP) Ending
Final Applications Due By Jan. 20th
New City, NY – The New York State Emergency Rental Assistance Program (ERAP) is permanently closing and the deadline to submit applications is 9:00 p.m., January 20th. After that, applications will no longer be accepted.
ERAP provided significant economic relief to low and moderate-income Rockland County households that experienced a financial hardship due to the COVID-19 pandemic and were at risk of homelessness by providing rental arrears, temporary rental assistance, and utility arrears.
This program has helped over 1,700 Rockland County households and had paid out over $28 million directly to landlords and utilities on behalf of eligible households to help prevent homelessness.
“Without question, this program has been a helpful lifeline for many of our families and we encourage anyone who is behind on their rent or utilities to submit their application by the deadline,” said County Executive Ed Day. “Families can also contact our Department of Social Services for help applying.”
Rockland County households that have experienced a financial hardship due to the COVID-19 pandemic and currently owe back rent are strongly encouraged to apply for this program before the application portal closes to new applications on January 20, 2023, at 9:00 PM.

In-person application assistance is available at the Rockland County Department of Social Services building located at 50 Sanatorium Road Building L, Pomona NY 10970 from 8:00 Am – 4:00 PM Monday – Friday. Please note that the office will be closed on Monday, January 16, 2023, in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
Applications submitted before the application portal closes on January 20, 2023, will continue to be processed in the order received, consistent with State law and program rules. Tenants and landlords may continue to upload required documentation for pending submitted applications after the ERAP application portal closes.
After January 20, 2023, low-income households in Rockland County that need assistance with rent arrears are encouraged to apply with the Rockland County Department of Social Services for Emergency and/or Temporary Assistance and households that require assistance with utility arrears are encouraged to apply for the Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP). To obtain information about these programs and to submit an electronic application please visit https://mybenefits.ny.gov. Households can also seek assistance by contacting the United Way Helpline, which has access to various local services, by dialing 2-1-1.
RCC and Ford Motor Company Team Up to Give Manhattan High School an Opportunity to Promote Expansion of Automotive-Industry Training Program for Underserved Youth
High-school students interested in joining RCC/Ford Motor Company’s unique Automotive Career Exploration (ACE) program are encouraged to attend the January 24th event
Suffern, NY (January 13, 2023) Through its partnership withFord Motor Company, Rockland Community College (RCC) offers an innovative opportunity for students to earn an associate degree as well as automotive-technology certifications while enrolled in Ford’s Automotive Student Service Educational Training (ASSET) program. Now, RCC, Ford, and New York City-based nonprofit Sound Business, Inc. (SBI) are teaming up to expand the training with a similar opportunity, Ford’s Automotive Career Exploration (ACE) program, available to high-school students at A. Philip Randolph Campus High School in Manhattan.
On Tuesday, January 24, 2023, at 2:30pm on the A. Philip Randolph Campus High School campus in Manhattan, RCC will unveil its game-changing partnership with Ford Motor Company and New York City-based nonprofit SBI to provide underserved youth with a pathway to success in the booming automotive industry.
The event will feature a special informational session for the new ACE program, an opportunity for interested parents and students to learn about the program and meet key players from RCC, Ford, SBI, A. Philip Randolph Campus High School and Mount Vernon High School, as well as special guests including New York City Mayor Eric Adams and NYCDOE Chancellor David C. Banks. This event promises to be a transformative opportunity for high school students to jumpstart their careers in the automotive industry, and a not-to-be-missed opportunity for those looking to make a difference in the lives of underserved youth.
The ACE program, which serves as a feeder program for the Ford ASSET program at RCC, is designed to give high schoolers an in-depth look into the automotive industry and a clear path to a career. Through the program, students will study cutting-edge topics such as new model training, electric systems engineering, and steering suspension, as well as the rich history of Ford Motor Company. The courses are the same as those taken by certified Ford/Lincoln technicians, giving students a head start in the competitive field of automotive technology.
This partnership marks RCC and Ford’s first collaboration with a Manhattan-based high school and is a significant step towards providing underserved youth with access to in-demand career opportunities.
“With this partnership, we are opening doors for a new generation of young people to enter the booming automotive industry,” said Bert Shillingford, the Automotive Technology Program Director at RCC. “By providing students at A. Philip Randolph Campus High School with access to the same training as certified Ford/Lincoln technicians, through the ACE program, we are giving them a head start in the competitive field of automotive technology. We are excited to continue our collaboration with Ford Motor Company and provide these students with a path to a thriving and rewarding career in the automotive industry.”

Day and Latimer Join Together on “LIHWAP Awareness Day” to Bring Attention to Funding Available to Help Low-Income Families Pay Their Water Bills
Nyack, NY — Rockland County Executive Ed Day and Westchester County Executive George Latimer were joined by social services and nonprofit leaders today in Nyack for a press conference in recognition of “LIHWAP Awareness Day.”
The Low Income Household Water Assistance Program (LIHWAP) is a federally funded program administered by New York State designed to help low-income households reduce the balances on their residential water and wastewater bills. Since January 1, 2023, Rockland and Westchester residents have received over $2.5 million in LIHWAP funding. LIHWAP Awareness Day is designed to bring greater awareness of this program to families in Rockland and Westchester Counties who may be eligible for relief.
County Executives Day and Latimer each made remarks and presented proclamations recognizing LIHWAP Awareness Day. They were joined by Rockland County Social Services Commissioner Joan Silvestri of Rockland County, Westchester County Social Services Commissioner Leonard Towns, United Way of Westchester and Putnam President & CEO Tom Gabriel, United Way of Rockland President & CEO Steve Papas, and Yudelca Fondeur, a direct recipient of LIHWAP funding who spoke about how this program has helped her and her family. Representatives from Veolia, whichprovides water services to nearly 500,000 residents in Rockland and Westchester counties, were also in attendance.
In recognition of LIHWAP awareness day, the Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge will be lit yellow – the color of hope – on the evening on January 12, 2023.
“Since the program began accepting applications in December of 2021, more than 1,800 applications have been approved and a total of $2.3 million dispersed to our Rockland families. That’s nearly $1,300 an application,” said Rockland County Executive Ed Day. “We know these last few years have been difficult for families, but this program is here to help you. I encourage everyone eligible to apply for this assistance.”
Westchester County Executive George Latimer said: “Access to running water is essential to daily life – and with rising costs nationwide, securing access to this essential piece of daily life is growing more difficult for families already facing economic challenges. Bringing awareness to this program, through events like this, can help to alleviate some of the pressures facing Westchester and Rockland residents to make ends meet.”
“The last few years have been challenging for people everywhere. Following an unprecedented pandemic, inflation is resulting in rising costs for almost everything,” said Karine Rougé, CEO of Municipal Water for Veolia North America. “This is particularly difficult for working families who may be struggling just to keep up with basic needs like water. Water is an essential resource, and we must do our part to help those who need it most.”
