Weber Announces Committee Assignments

Senator Bill Weber (Republican, Conservative), who represents New York’s 38th District, was appointed to the influential Budget and Revenue Committee and chosen as ranking member by the Republican Conference. Senator Weber is one of just two certified public accountants in the entire state legislature, an important qualification much in demand for this role. Senator Weber looks to reign in the out-of-control spending and high taxes contributing to the massive number of New Yorkers leaving the state.


Senator Weber was also appointed as ranking member of the Developmental Disabilities Committee. Assuring that the state does everything possible to help those living with disabilities is a goal close to his heart.


The Senator was also selected to serve on the Education Committee. Bill supports both public and private schools. He is the husband of lifelong public-school educator, Lisa Weber, and father of four public school students. As a successful product of Catholic schools, his real-life experience with private education has led to strong support for promoting school choice and parents’ rights to choose where and how to educate their children. Education policies that put parents and students first were key to his winning campaign.


Senator Weber will utilize his years of experience as a CPA and CFO for his other committee assignments to the Consumer Protection Committee and the Corporation, Authorities, and Commissions Committee, which mandates budget expenditures of New York State’s utility companies.


Senator Weber stated, “I am honored to be appointed to these important committees and thank the Republican Conference for their vote of confidence. I am looking forward to fighting for New Yorkers, especially those in my district, to keep their hard-earned money in their pockets, their children’s education under their control, and improved quality of life for all.”

Health Department offers Be Healthy in ’23 series at local libraries

NEW CITY, NY, – Rockland County Executive Ed Day and County Health Commissioner Dr. Patricia Schnabel Ruppert announce the Be Healthy in ‘23 public health information and education series starting January! The Finkelstein Memorial Library will host the Rockland County Department of Health on Wednesday evenings from 5:30 – 6:30 pm. Health department employees will be in the library’s lobby, offering information, resources, and takeaways on various health topics to help Rockland residents live healthier lives.

In 2022, the library served as a center for COVID-19 information reaching patrons who may not have had access to traditional or social media news.  Health Department staff visiting the library on Wednesday evenings are multi-lingual, which benefits patrons.

Laura Wolven, Finkelstein Memorial Library Director, stated, “The library has and continues to be a trusted, familiar destination in the village. The partnership between the library and the health department expanded the library’s role as a center for community information. We continue to grow our educational resources with many relevant wellness books in our catalogue/collection, but we also collaborate with amazing partners like the health department to bring services directly to the community. The library looks forward to hosting the health department in 2023!”  

“The health department continues to partner with various community organizations to reach residents where they live, work, learn, play, and pray.  Being present in public spaces offers residents an opportunity to interact with reputable public health professionals who share accurate and timely information and resources. In addition, patrons have a one-on-one chance to learn about the many prevention programs and health services the Rockland County Health Department offers to residents for free or low-cost,” said Dr. Ruppert.

The health department is expanding this outreach and education to other libraries in Rockland. The health department will also be at the following libraries: Nanuet, Nyack, and Haverstraw King’s Daughters main library in Garnerville.   • June – Summer Safety
  • July – Eye Injury Prevention, Summer Food Safety, Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program
  • August – Breastfeeding Awareness, Immunizations
  • September – Hunger Awareness, Women’s Health, Falls Prevention, Alzheimer’s, Pedestrian Safety
  • October – Influenza Vaccination, Breast Cancer Awareness, Fire Prevention, and Pedestrian Awareness
  • November – Diabetes Awareness
  • December – World AIDS Day, Healthier Holidays, Fire Safety, Impaired Driving Prevention, Toy and Gift Safety

Congratulations to New York State Senator Bill Weber on his swearing in ceremony held earlier this week. Supervisor Hoehmann served as the Master of Ceremony and was joined by Councilman Michael Graziano and Highway Superintendent Bob Milone.
