Veolia encourages customers to continue to limit water usage to prevent possible Fall dry spell
The County of Rockland has lifted the Modified Stage II Water Emergency, effective immediately.
The alert had been in effect since Thursday, August 18 following a particularly dry spell with very little rain.Since mandatory restrictions were enacted, water usage has fallen about 15 percent in Rockland.
However, in order to further protect water supplies, families and businesses are urged to continue limiting usage and keeping outdoor watering to a minimum.
“The conservation efforts by our customers since the declaration of the drought alert have been very effective,” said Chris Graziano, Vice President and General Manager of Veolia operations in New York. “We thank our customers for their help during this time and urge them to continue to limit their water use to mitigate the possibility of another prolonged dry spell in the fall.”The end of the drought alert also means that high water users will not be charged a special “drought rate.”

Dominican University New York Offers Early Admission Pathway to Saint Elizabeth University Physician Assistant Program
Orangeburg, NY and Morristown, NJ – Dominican University New York, in Orangeburg, N.Y. and Saint Elizabeth University (SEU), in Morristown, N.J., today announced an agreement to offer a new pathway to becoming a physician assistant. Under the agreement, up to three eligible Dominican University students will be interviewed during their junior year for early admission decision into SEU’s M.S. in Physician Assistant program.
“This is a wonderful opportunity for our students who wish to become physician assistants to receive early admission into a well-respected master’s program,” said Sr. Mary Eileen O’Brien, O.P., Ph.D., president, Dominican University New York. “Dominican University has built an impressive reputation in the health fields and this new program will provide additional professional opportunities for our students.”
“We are very excited to work with Dominican University as SEU’s mission of providing a high-quality education to students of diverse ages, backgrounds, and cultures is an excellent fit with that of Dominican University,” said Anne Clark Bartlett, Ph.D., provost and vice president for the Division of Academic Affairs and Student Life at SEU. “We look forward to welcoming our first Dominican University students to the program.” Students planning to apply for acceptance into the 28-month-long SEU physician assistant program will receive advisement throughout their undergraduate study at Dominican University to ensure that they complete the prerequisite courses and meet the qualifications to enter the program. In order to be interviewed for the program in their junior year, students must have a cumulative prerequisite GPA of 3.4 and a
cumulative GPA of 3.2, and be on track to complete all of the required prerequisite courses with a B or better. Candidates also must meet the following requirements by March of their senior year:
- Complete a minimum of 300 direct patient care hours
- Complete a minimum of 16 physician assistant shadow hours
- Complete a minimum of 50 community service hours
- Complete a Centralized Application Service for Physician Assistant (CASPA) application
- Submit scores for the Physician Assistant College Admissions Test (PA-CAT).
- Submit three recommendations including one from a professor and one from a physician or physician assistant.
Under the new agreement, the first Dominican University students will be interviewed for conditional admission to the SEU Physician Assistant program in February 2023. Visit SEU’s M.S. in Physician Assistant page for more information on the program.
Hundreds Gather for Skoufis’ Middletown BBQ & Community Resource Fair
Senator James Skoufis (D-Hudson Valley) welcomed several hundred Orange County residents for his now-annual community barbecue and resource fair in Middletown’s Erie Way Park on Saturday. The barbecue, hosted in partnership with TD Bank and the City of Middletown, brought together 25 agencies and community organizations to share information about their services and local offerings.
The Middletown Fire Department served up complimentary hotdogs, burgers, and fried foods, while Rita’s Italian Ice kept folks cool, and DJs from Vargas Productions kept barbecue-goers moving with a lively set from the stage. Upstate Jamboree provided lawn games for the kids, and Autumn, a local artist from People Paint, offered up her face-painting talents all afternoon.
The barbecue, an evolution of Skoufis’ Taco Sunday event held in Newburgh last year, offered a chance for the Senator and his team to introduce themselves to – and get to know – the broader Middletown community.
“My team and I have been a resource for the entire Orange County community,” said Senator Skoufis, “and we hope our neighbors in Middletown will come to know us this way as well. We’ve been blown away by the passion and generosity of this city and we look forward to doing all we can to support Middletown in the years to come.”
