Orangetown remembers Brinks tragedy

On Wednesday afternoon, Orangetown commemorated the 40th Anniversary of the Brink’s robbery in Nyack, where  hundreds of people paid tribute to Police Officer Waverly “Chipper” Brown, Sgt. Edward O’Grady, Brinks Guard Peter Paige and their families. Sadly, October 20, 1981, is a day that will never be forgotten in Rockland County.

Drug Take Back Day Scheduled for October 23rd

New City, NY, – Rockland is once again offering residents the opportunity to empty their medicine cabinets of unused prescription and over the counter medications before they fall into the wrong hands, County Executive Ed Day announced. Another National Prescription Drug Take Back Day will be held from 10 AM – 2 PM, Saturday, October 23 at selected pharmacies and police departments in Rockland.

“This is an easy way to get rid of medications you no longer need so that they don’t fall into the wrong hands,” said County Executive Ed Day. “Disposing of medications, you no longer need by handing them over to the proper authorities also protects the environment by keeping prescription drugs out of our water.”

The event is part of the National Drug Take Back Day initiated by the federal Drug Enforcement Agency. The local event has been organized by County Executive Day, the Rockland County Department of Mental Health and the Rockland County Sheriff’s Office along with local police departments.

Residents will be able to bring medications to the following locations between 10 AM and 2 PM where police will be on hand to take the substances and dispose of them in an environmentally safe way:

  • CVS Pharmacy, 280 S Main Street, New City
  • CVS Pharmacy, 330 Route 304, Bardonia
  • Walgreens, 16 Route 59, Nyack
  • Walgreens, 208 W. Route 59, Spring Valley
  • Walgreens, 135 S Liberty Dr, Stony Point
  • Ramapo Police Department, 237 Route 59, Suffern
  • South Nyack Police Department, 282 South Broadway, South Nyack
  • Orangetown Police Department, 26 Orangeburg Road, Orangeburg
  • Suffern Police Department, 61 Washington Ave, Suffern

Ed Day Endorsed by Rockland County Sheriff’s Deputies Association
