Events and Activities Run from April 23 to May 7

ROCKLAND COUNTY, N.Y. (April 22, 2022) – Rockland Community College has organized the second annual series of Unity in Community: Rising as One events and activities that highlight and honor the collaboration, passion and compassion that has boosted RCC’s community spirit over these unprecedented times. The idea for Unity in Community was conceptualized in 2021 by RCC’s Patricia Maloney-Titland, Program Director of Visual and Performing Arts, Co-Founder and Co-Artistic Director of the Rockland Shakespeare Company, and a SUNY Distinguished Service Professor.
“RCC is proud to celebrate and embrace each other during these challenging times by coming together with the upcoming events and activities,” says RCC President Dr. Michael A. Baston. “When we celebrate the uniqueness of each of us, we honor the gifts that we have been given and make our community stronger.”
The Festival includes theatrical performances, food festivals, historical event discussions, and more.
Events and activities will also highlight the creativity of RCC students, faculty, staff, and the community. There will be a special preview of the forthcoming 25th Anniversary season of the award-winning Rockland Shakespeare Company on April 23rd at 7 pm and a musical review, Broadway Rising and Beyond (April 29th -May 1st), of some of the most celebrated musicals throughout the decades, including current musicals. The performances will feature material from RCC’s Chief Financial Officer, Dr. Dan DoBell’s new musical Relevance. RCC student art work will be celebrated at the Impulse 2022 – the student art magazine – Launch Party on April 28th at 4:30 pm.
During The Creative Process: Meet the Writers/Artists event, attendees will join a rich discussion with faculty and student writers, as they share their creative process for playwrighting, songwriting and writing poetry, articles, and critical essays.
Most of the events are free (unless otherwise noted on the webpage) and open to the public. For more information and details about all the events, visit https://sunyrockland.edu/about/media/unity-in-community/.
