Village Hall will be closed for Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday, January 16th, 2023.
Both garbage and recycling pickup will occur as normally scheduled.

Statement from Day regarding Anti-LGBTQ+ Incident
Let me be abundantly clear, hate has no home in Rockland County. Today my office was notified about anti-LGBTQ+ graffiti on the exterior of the Rockland County Pride Center in the Village of Nyack. I am disgusted by this type of vandalism surfacing here in Rockland and condemn it in the strongest possible terms.
Words matter and we must not allow intolerance to grow or fester in this beautiful county that we all call home. We must continue our efforts to get to know and embrace our neighbors from different backgrounds. Despite any differences we all seek the same things; a safe and welcoming place to live and work.
While I personally view this incident as a hate crime, we do not know what type of charges the perpetrator may face. I encourage anyone with information about this crime to call or email the Orangetown Police Department at 845-359-3700 and orangetownpd@orangetown.com.
Statement from Commissioner of Human Rights Spencer Chiimbwe
In the wake of the anti-LGBTQ+ graffiti at the Rockland County Pride Center in Nyack, New York, the Rockland Human Rights Commission doubly condemns the incident and submits that such actions are horrific and must not go unaddressed. The Commission will always remain supportive of the work of the Rockland County Pride Center and all other organizations that are working to make our county a great place. No form of social animus will prevent our collective zeal from fighting such frontiers of hate in Rockland County.
Statement from County Executive Ed Day
“Since Fall of 2021, I’ve adamantly spoken out against state legislation to create Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs), as New York is a home rule state.
Our Planning Department has already detailed in a professional manner a myriad of problems (see letter attached) with this legislation that allows Albany to dictate land use and zoning issues, creating public safety problems and potentially endanger our first responders.
Last February, when Gov. Kathy Hochul pulled the bill from her 2023 executive budget, I was quoted saying:
“…the removal of this legislation from the Governor’s proposed State Budget seemingly is not the end but a re-start, one that I am convinced the Governor will throw her weight behind AFTER Election Day IF she is re-elected. Keep that in mind when you vote on November 8th.”
As predicted, she did exactly that & reintroduced the bill Tuesday in her State of the State. Politics at its finest.
While creating affordable housing is an admirable goal the one-size-fits-all approach of this legislation is extremely problematic and does not account for differences between rural, suburban, and urban communities and I’m concerned there is a strong likelihood that the character of our County will be changed forever.
As your County Executive, and past president of a local civic association, I believe this concept to be contradicted by the Constitution of New York State and will continue to stand firmly in opposition to any politically based plan that undermines New York State Home Rule regulations and municipal zoning ordinances. My Administration will keep all our options open in order to stop this plan in its tracks.”

Village Hall and DPW are closed in observance of the holiday. Parking fees suspended, all other parking regulations remain in effect. Trash will be collected on Tuesday, January 17, 2022.

The legislature must address these pertinent issues this session, and I am thankful to the citizens of district thirty-eight who elected me to participate in that discussion.”
