Roadway honoring late County Clerk Piperato unveiled
Section of Route 304 officially renamed after former County Clerk Paul Piperato
ROCKLAND, NY – Senator Elijah Reichlin-Melnick and Assembly Member Ken Zebrowski were joined by several members of the Piperato family and fellow public officials for the unveiling of the signage declaring Route 304 in New City between Ridge Road and State Route 9W as Rockland County Clerk Paul Piperato Memorial Highway.
Senator Elijah Reichlin-Melnick said, “Paul Piperato was a wonderful public servant and a wonderful human being who left us far too soon. Everyone who met him loved him, and his compassion and dedicated service improved the lives of so many veterans, new citizens, and countless residents who continue to benefit from his innovations as a County Clerk.”
The Senator continued, “I am proud to have passed legislation to rename this section of Route 304 which connects Paul’s hometown of Haverstraw with New City, where he served for so many years as our County Clerk. Naming this road in his honor pays tribute to a remarkable career and will hopefully inspire future generations to learn about and strive to emulate his career of public service.”
“Throughout his life, Paul Piperato was known as the nicest man in politics. His years of service to our county were a testament to his dedication to our community, and we continue to feel his loss each day in Rockland County. This section of Route 304, renamed in his honor, will ensure that his legacy continues to live on,” said Assembly Member Ken Zebrowski.
Paul’s niece, Alexa Piperato, spoke on behalf of the family expressing appreciation for the public acknowledgement of her uncle’s long career serving the people of Rockland. Rockland County Clerk Donna Silberman, who served as Deputy County Clerk during Mr. Piperato’s tenure also shared heartfelt remarks.
Senator Elijah Reichlin-Melnick and Assembly Member Ken Zebrowski sponsored the legislation to rename the roadway following Piperato’s passing in May 2020. Paul Piperato was well known by Rockland County residents for his 30-year career in government, including 16 years as County Clerk.
New Pickleball Courts at Congers Lake
Clarkstown Town Supervisor George Hoehmann and the Town Board officially opened the new pickleball courts at Congers Lake Memorial Park with a ceremonial ribbon cutting.
The Town completed construction of 9 new pickleball courts and a concession stand with bathrooms.
Assemblyman Ken Zebrowski, who secured a $500,000 State grant for the Town’s project, also joined the celebration as well as Recreation Superintendent Eric Hammermeister, Chris Wagner, Director of DEFM, Parks and Recreation Advisory Board members, other town officials, Bridges, and many members of the Rockland Pickleball Club.
The courts are now officially open to all Clarkstown residents!
Tour of Orangetown Town Hall July 8th
On Friday, July 8th, there will be a guided tour of the Orangetown Town Hall. The tour is open to the public and everyone is invited to walk through the building to see for themselves why a new town hall is very much needed.
Day Awards Keys To The County To Pfizer Employees
Both Recipients Played Key Role In Developing COVID-19 Vaccine
New City, NY – During a ceremony at Pfizer’s Vaccine Research and Development Headquarters in Pearl River, Rockland County Executive Ed Day presented Kathrin U. Jansen, Senior Vice President, and Head of Vaccine Research & Development at Pfizer along with her colleague Steve Bjornson, Vice President, and Chief Operating Officer of Vaccine Research & Development with a Key to the County Award for their commitment to science and saving lives.
“As you know, the Key to the County is awarded to a person who makes a special contribution to Rockland. We have given keys in the past for acts of love, acts of heroism, and acts of service and leadership,” said County Executive Ed Day. “But today, it’s being given to two individuals for their unprecedented contribution not just to this County – but to the entire world.”
When the pandemic began, Kathrin Jansen, who is set to retire this year, commanded a 650-person team at Pfizer which worked around the clock to develop the very first vaccine granted emergency use authorization by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, accomplished in record development of under a year.
“Without question, Jansen’s tenacity for developing this vaccine impacted billions of lives worldwide,” said Day. “I commend you for your longtime contribution to science and saving lives and wish you well in your retirement later this year. You’ve more than earned it.”
Steve Bjornson switched the focus of Pfizer’s Vaccine Research and Development Headquarters in Pearl River to developing a vaccine. As the pandemic unfolded, Steve and his team played an essential role in maintaining a safe environment at the site so the pharmaceutical giant could develop the COVID-19 vaccine quickly.
“Both of your combined efforts led to Pfizer accomplishing something that had never been done – in a timeframe never imagined,” said Day.
Past recipients of the Key to the County include: Grace VanderWaal, Millicent Ivey Mackle, William V. Harris IV, Cole Donnellan, and Katelyn Tuohy.
