The Rockland County Bar Association presenting Orangetown Supervisor Teresa Kenny with the Natalie Couch Award at their 2021 Awards and Installation Dinner last night. Natalie Couch graduated from Wellesley College in 1907 and went on to do great things in Rockland County. To name just a few, Couch was the first woman to practice law, to cast a legal vote, and to serve as the President of the Rockland County Bar Association. Kenny said, “It was an honor to receive this award from my colleagues in the legal profession and in the name of such a phenomenal Orangetown woman.”

It is great to see Governor Cuomo following our lead in ending the State of Emergency across New York State. It is clear to all that due to the increasing vaccination rate and decreasing active case numbers the COVID-19 pandemic is no longer a crisis. Today is yet another important step in bringing this chapter to a close, and I welcome a return to the regular governance of our state.
While the past nearly 16 months have been difficult, we have overcome so much by coming together and supporting each other in the face of this common enemy. I look forward to continuing our work with the County Legislature to support local businesses and residents as we move towards a full recovery.
We here in Rockland are resilient and together there is no challenge we cannot overcome. Now is our opportunity to reinvest in the communities hit hardest by the pandemic as we rebuild stronger and better than before.
