Stony Point, NY – An 18-year-old Bronx man, Mahamadou Sissoko, has been arrested and charged in connection with the theft of mail containing personal financial information from residential mailboxes in Tomkins Cove. The alleged crime occurred on Tuesday, October 8, 2024, and involved two accomplices.
According to Lt. Daniel Schoales of the Stony Point Police Department, Sissoko and two accomplices—a 15-year-old and another 18-year-old male—were observed stealing mail. Police responded as the trio attempted to flee the scene in a vehicle driven by Sissoko.
The vehicle was later found off the roadway, down an embankment, and engulfed in flames. Sissoko fled the crash site on foot into a wooded area, evading capture despite an extensive search involving multiple law enforcement agencies.
The two accomplices were apprehended near the scene.
After a thorough investigation, law enforcement identified Sissoko as the driver who fled the scene. He was apprehended on Thursday, January 9, 2025, in the Bronx and transported to the Stony Point Police Station for processing.
Sissoko has been charged with grand larceny and related offenses. He was released on an appearance ticket pending a future court date.
The Stony Point Police Department commended the cooperation of multiple law enforcement agencies in successfully identifying and apprehending the suspect. This case highlights the importance of inter-agency collaboration in addressing crimes that affect local communities.
Residents are reminded to report any suspicious activity and take precautions to secure their mail to prevent theft.
