Albany, NY – Senator Bill Weber (38th District) has assumed a new role as a member of the New York State Senate Elections Committee. This appointment follows Senator Mark Walczyk’s (49th District) deployment to Kuwait for a nine-month military assignment, where he serves as a Captain in the Army Reserve.
Expressing gratitude for Senator Walczyk’s military service, Senator Weber stated, “We are lucky to have citizens like Mark Walczyk serving in the Senate and the military. I thank him for his military service. I am honored to have been appointed to the Senate Elections Committee while he is deployed overseas.”
Senator Weber emphasized the importance of election integrity and the need to ensure that every vote counts. He pledged to advocate for these principles as a member of the committee, especially during this crucial election year.
In addition to his new role on the Elections Committee, Senator Weber holds positions on several other Senate committees, including the Budget and Revenue Committee (Ranking Member), the Disabilities Committee (Ranking Member), the Consumer Protection Committee, the Corporations, Authorities and Commissions Committee, and the Education Committee.
Due to anticipated weather conditions, all Rockland Community College campuses will be closed on Friday, January 19, 2024.

In Albany, New York, State Senator Pete Harckham has expressed strong criticism towards Governor Kathy Hochul for reducing state aid to multiple school districts within Senate District 40. Despite the Executive’s Proposed FY2024-2025 State Budget growing to $233 billion, marking a 4.3% increase from the previous year, these cuts have raised concerns.
Six school districts in Senate District 40, namely Bedford, Katonah-Lewisboro, Croton-Harmon, Chappaqua, North Salem, and Yorktown, are set to receive less school aid in the FY2024-2025 State Budget compared to the previous year.
Harckham emphasized the significance of consistent investments in education for New York’s economic future. “Educating our students is the key to New York’s economic future and requires that we make these important investments in our schools, year after year,” said Harckham. He views the reduction in these investments as a regressive step and an affront to students, educators, and taxpayers.
Furthermore, Harckham pledged to fight for the restoration of full funding to all school districts statewide. Recognizing the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic on students’ learning, he believes that this is not the time to impose state aid cuts that would affect staffing and educational programs.
Additionally, nine out of the 19 school districts in Senate District 40 are facing reductions in Foundation Aid as per Governor Hochul’s proposed FY2024-2025 budget.
Among the school districts impacted, the Bedford Central School District, which serves 3,500 students, stands to lose 12% of its state aid. Harckham emphasized the importance of equity in the budget model, stating, “This year, school districts in New York should not receive less state funding while other districts nearby are seeing increases. That unfair budget modeling is a thing of the past.”
Senator Pete Harckham represents the 40th Senate District, encompassing various towns and villages in Putnam, Rockland, and Westchester Counties, all of which are integral to the educational landscape of New York State.

Raise your voice in our community chorus, the “All Together Now chorus,” when rehearsals resume on Monday January 22, 6PM at the Old Stone Meeting House, 347 N Broadway.
The ATN chorus is a rock chorus. We sing contemporary music in order to lift our spirits and the spirits of those we sing for.
On January 22, we will be joined by our new Musical Director, Olivia Lionetti. Olivia grew up in northern NJ, where she studied classical piano from a very young age. She holds a degree in Commercial Music with a concentration in piano studies. Olivia has traveled all over the world to perform and is currently working as a choral conductor and piano teacher. She looks forward to continuing her musical journey and collaborating with those who share her musical vision.
