County Secures Another Victory Against NYC
County Granted Preliminary Injunction Against City of New York (ruling attached below)
New City, NY – On Tuesday New York Supreme Court Justice Thomas Zugibe granted the County of Rockland’s request for a Preliminary Injunction against the City of New York and Mayor Eric Adams and the Armoni Hotel, prohibiting the City from proceeding with their plan to turn the Armoni Inn and Suites in Orangeburg into a shelter for 340 migrants.
In May, County Executive Ed Day filed a lawsuit against the City of New York citing its lack of authority to establish a shelter outside of its boundaries without cooperation of the County and local municipalities. The lawsuit underscores the City of New York’s lack of communication and planning and its failure to follow New York State rules and regulations required for setting up a shelter.
“The City of New York’s attempts at unilateral action are disrespectful of the people and local governments in Rockland County. The City government can do what it likes within its own borders, but it must show some regard for the people, governments, and laws of this County if it wants to open operations here, whether it is a shelter or its new voucher plan,” explained Rockland County Attorney Thomas Humbach. “The Court also found that the County opponents’ unresponsive, repetitive, and needlessly combative claims that the County acted with “racist motivation” failed to provide any persuasive argument. Ultimately, the Preliminary Injunction prohibits the City from bringing people to Rockland County to house them in shelters.”
“This County has a severe housing crisis subjecting many low-income families in Rockland to overcrowded and unsafe living conditions,” said County Executive Ed Day. “Quadrupling the number of homeless in this County overnight, as the City is intending to do, will only compound our housing crisis and lead to more people living in these dangerously inhumane conditions that we are fighting to fix.”
“That includes going to site plans, approvals, inspections; it’s a lengthy process. The Mayor knows this because he issued his own executive order in his boroughs to accelerate that process,” explained Rockland County Department of Social Services Commissioner Joan Silvestri. “He has no authority to attempt to move homeless individuals outside of his city and certainly not if he hasn’t followed the state regulations for shelters for homeless individuals.”

Village Branch to Host Sensory Play for Families
Haverstraw, NY – The Village Branch of the Haverstraw King’s Daughters Public Library will host a STEM program for young children on Tuesday, October 24, 2023. The program is scheduled from 10:30 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. and is open to children aged 0-6. The event aims to provide interactive and sensory-based learning experiences. Families are encouraged to attend, and no registration is required.
Parents or guardians are expected to stay with their children during the program, and siblings are also welcome. The event will take place at 85 Main Street in Haverstraw.
2nd Annual North Rockland Car Show Draws Enthusiasts to Haverstraw Village

HAVERSTRAW, NY – The North Rockland Chamber of Commerce successfully hosted its 2nd annual car show on Sunday, October 15, 2023, from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM, in collaboration with RocklandWorks.org – Rockland County job placement and training service. The event witnessed an impressive turnout, drawing car enthusiasts and spectators from near and far.
This year’s car show featured a collection of approximately 30 remarkable vehicles, showcasing classic, muscle, and high-end sports cars. The event was organized by Jack Guerra of Kingz Car Crew, who also arranged for a DJ and PA system for the event.
Attendees were treated to a visual feast of automotive excellence, with each car exuding its unique charm and charisma. The winner of the car show was Cisco Baez, who entered his midnight purple Nissan R33 GTR.
Among the standout vehicles on display were (dates of vehicles are all approximations):
- Blue Duke of Earl: A classic 1940’s beauty that captured the essence of a bygone era.
- White Corvette: A 1980’s symbol of American automotive prowess and style.
- Green Boss 302: A legendary muscle car known for its power and performance.
- Yellow Vette: A vibrant and eye-catching classic sports car that turned heads.
- Green Chevy 307: A vintage gem that carried with it a piece of automotive history.
- Green Buick: An elegant and timeless vehicle that epitomized luxury.
- Red ‘vette: A bold and fiery sports car that left a lasting impression.
- Gold Hot Rod: A gleaming masterpiece of customization and speed.
- Black SS: A powerful and sleek model that exuded sophistication.
- Black Hearse from a Movie: A unique and intriguing addition that piqued curiosity.
- Black and White BMWs: Symbols of German engineering excellence in monochromatic beauty.
- Red 1940’s Desoto: A vintage classic that transported attendees back in time.
During the awards ceremony, The North Rockland Chamber of Commerce expressed its gratitude to all the car owners, participants, and event attendees who contributed to the success of this year’s car show.
