Governor Kathy Hochul announced a $2 million State investment to add 12 apprenticeship programs at the City University of New York for its associate degrees starting in the Fall 2023 semester, a large expansion of CUNY’s offering of for-credit apprenticeships in in-demand industries. The additions build on the five existing apprenticeship programs embedded within CUNY associate degree programs in software engineering, consulting, finance, risk management and cybersecurity.

“Apprenticeships are a critical launching pad for good-paying, impactful careers and we’re proud to build a robust program for CUNY students,” Governor Hochul said. “With this additional $2 million investment, we’re able to expand apprenticeship programs for associate degree programs and open up new opportunities for New Yorkers across the state.”

Governor Kathy Hochul announced over $70 million in financial assistance for water infrastructure improvement projects across New York State. The Environmental Facilities Corporation Board of Directors has approved low-cost financing and previously announced grants, authorizing municipal access to the capital needed to get shovels in the ground for drinking water and sewer projects that reduce potential risks to public health and the environment. The Board also approved low-cost long-term financing for five completed projects, providing debt relief through lower interest rates than if the municipalities borrowed on their own.

“New York State is committed to providing communities with the resources needed to take action on critical water infrastructure projects that prevent exposure and health risks,” Governor Hochul said. “The grants and financings approved by the Environmental Facilities Corporation Board will leverage even greater local investments to help ensure our communities in every corner of New York have access to clean, safe water.”

NEW CITY, NY, – The Rockland County Department of Health announces free rabies shots (vaccinations) are available for cats, dogs, and ferrets belonging to Rockland residents by appointment only on Sunday, April 30, 2023, from 10:00 am – 1:00 pm at the Rockland County Fire Training Center, 35 Firemen’s Memorial Drive in Pomona.  An appointment is required for each animal, and please arrive no earlier than 15 minutes before your scheduled appointment time. The shots are free; however, a $5 donation per animal will help defray our costs.

“Animal rabies is a life-threatening contagious disease that is almost always fatal. So, prevention is the best medicine. We remind all Rockland County residents to ensure that their animals are immunized against rabies and that the vaccinations are kept up-to-date,” said Mandar Mhatre, Public Health Technician II, Rabies Program Coordinator.

To get their free rabies shot:

• Your dog, cat, or ferret must be healthy.
• Your pet must be older than three months.
• Your dogs must be on a leash.
• Your cats and ferrets must be on a leash or in a carrier.

New York State law requires that all dogs, cats, and domesticated ferrets be vaccinated against rabies by four months of age.  Owners can be fined up to $250 if they fail to get their pets vaccinated and keep them up-to-date.  All animal bites and animals suspected of having rabies must be reported to The Rockland County Health Department at (845) 364-2656.  After hours, callers should contact the sheriff at (845) 364-8600.

“Save your pets, your family, and yourself from rabies. Please take advantage of this opportunity to get your dog, cat, or ferret vaccinated against rabies to protect them and the other members of your family from this disease,” said County Executive Day.

RCC is hosting an in-person Open House on the Main Campus in Suffern on April 20th from 4pm to 7pm. This is a great opportunity for potential students and their families to tour the campus and meet with current students to ask any questions they may have about attending RCC.

There is also an opportunity to meet with representatives from Financial Aid, Student Success and Specialized Services, and Academic Deans will be hosting breakout rooms to help students find the right academic program. Also being offered by RCC is a series of academic program information sessions for careers.
