General Information
Where do the funds go?
All funds raised through Walk to End Alzheimer’s further the care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer’s Association. The Alzheimer’s Association is a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization. All donations are tax-deductible as allowed by law.
Do I have to register in order to Walk?
Yes, we want to know you’re walking with us and need every participant to sign a standard waiver through their official registration. There is no registration fee for Walk. However, we ask every participant to make a personal donation and commit to raising funds in the fight against Alzheimer’s.
Do I need to register my children for Walk?
Yes, children should register. Parents/guardians can register children online or complete an offline registration form and sign the waiver on behalf of the child.
Does every participant get a T-shirt?
Every registered participant who achieves the fundraising minimum of $100 will receive an official Walk to End Alzheimer’s T-shirt via USPS. To receive a shirt in time for Walk day, participants must raise the T-shirt minimum at least four weeks prior to the event.
How do I get my offline donations to show up on my personal fundraising web page?
Donations can be made offline by submitting a check or money order by mail or hand-delivering to the local Alzheimer’s Association office. Be sure to include your offline donation form, which can be found in your Participant Center or on your fundraising web page, to make sure you receive credit for the donation. Donations typically take one to two weeks to show up on your web page. Don’t want to wait? You can also deposit checks directly to your Walk page from the Walk to End Alzheimer’s mobile app for iPhone or Android.
Event Specifics
Will there be COVID-19 safety measures in place at Walk?
The health and safety of our participants, staff and volunteers are our top priorities. Walk events will be designed with this in mind including a venue layout that allows for physical distancing, hand sanitizer stations, contactless registration and more. The Association will continue to closely monitor Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), state and local guidelines and make adjustments to our event-day safety protocols as needed.
Are pets, strollers, bicycles and skates allowed on Walk day?
We do allow strollers, but for everyone’s safety, we discourage skateboards, bicycles, inline skates and wheelie footwear. Depending on the Walk location rules, well-behaved dogs are welcome, but must be on a leash at all times.
What happens if it rains?
Walk is a rain or shine event. However, in the case of severe weather, we will cancel. If this is the case, we will update our Walk homepage on or before the morning of the event.
We need volunteers! Know anyone who might be interested in helping us on the day of the event?
We need volunteers to help with set-up, clean-up, registration, water stops, Promise Garden and so much more. All interested volunteers should visit our volunteer page for more information about event day roles and responsibilities.
How do I get a Promise Garden Flower?
Each registered participant will receive a Promise Garden flower. Please choose the color that best represents your connection to the disease.
Blue represents someone living with Alzheimer’s or another dementia
Purple is for those who have lost a someone to the disease.
Yellow represents someone who is currently supporting or caring for a person living with Alzheimer’s.
Orange is for those who support the cause and the Association’s vision of a world without Alzheimer’s and all other dementia.
Raja Amar Speaks on Letchworth Village plans at North Rockland Chamber of Commerce September Membership Meeting
The North Rockland Chamber of Commerce held its most recent membership breakfast on September 14th, 2021 at The Pancake Factory in Stony Point, NY.
The guest speaker, Raja Amar from Patriot Hills LLC – discussed at length his plans for development of the Stony Point portion of the Letchworth Village property, notably how the company would manage the operations and finances of the Patriot Hills Golf Course. Those plans are predicated on the results of a referendum on the proposed sale of the property, by the Town of Stony Point to Patriot Hills LLC, scheduled for vote on Nov 2, 2021.

The next North Rockland Chamber membership meeting will be held on Tuesday, October 12 at Sonoma Grille, located on the Phillip J. Rotella Golf Course in Thiells, NY. Sign in for the breakfast begins at 7:45 am, and the meeting commence at 8 am, lasting until 9 am.
Down to Earth Living to Host Free Gardening Seminars October 3rd

Just because you won’t be mowing the lawn in winter, there is plenty you can do to ensure maximum enjoyment come spring. Learn about when to fertilize, how to optimize the use of herbicides and insecticides, what types of seeds are best for your growing conditions and when to plant, along with how to enhance your existing plantings.
12 pm: Winterize your Garden and Plan for Spring
It is important to prepare your gardens for their long winter naps so they will look their best next year. Learn how to protect your perennials, fall planting guidelines and plan out what to plant now for early spring color.
1 pm: Landscaping Design
Keep your garden colorful all year long by planting perennials that have a variety of bloom times. Learn how to plan out your own lawn and garden with tips and advice on enhancing your property—from sweeping lawns to craggy rock outcroppings and everything in between.
2 pm: Bonsai Gardening
Bonsai is the art of growing certain trees and shrubs in small, shallow containers. With careful and precise training and pruning, the plant is slowly shaped and manipulated to give the appearance of an older, mature tree. You too can learn about this ancient art, what plants are best to grow and how to care for them.

Down to Earth Living Awards Three $500 Scholarships to North Rockland High School Graduates
(ROCKLAND, New York) June 4, 2021 – For the past 30 years, Down to Earth Living in Pomona, New York has been providing scholarships to North Rockland High School graduates. This year’s recipients of the $500 awards are Alessandro Troncoso who will attend Princeton University, Christian Molina who will attend Manhattan College, and Jamie Kapusinsky who will attend the University of Connecticut.
“Down to Earth is delighted to provide three deserving students with an award that will help them continue on their path toward their futures. Helping young people in our community realize their dreams is an important part of our company’s mission,” stated Risa Hoag, spokesperson for the company.
Down to Earth Living staff use five criteria to determine the winners each year. First and foremost is academic performance which is based upon GPA and other available test scores, followed by participation in extracurricular activities, applications and club memberships, and community service. A topical essay is also required to demonstrate the student’s ability to communicate, and the student must also show the specific goal-directed activities taken toward achieving his or her future career. Financial need is also taken into consideration.
