Rockland County District Attorney Thomas E. Walsh II announced today that Joseph Lewin, 71, a well-known gymnastics coach throughout various gyms in Rockland County was arraigned before the Honorable Kevin F. Russo on one count of Course of Sexual Conduct Against a Child in the Second Degree (Class D felony).
The charges allege that between 2012 and 2015, Lewin did sexually abuse a female child under the age of thirteen while serving as a gymnastic coach at his gym in the Village of Hillburn in the Town of Ramapo.
Law enforcement is encouraging individuals with information to contact the Town of Ramapo Detective Bureau (845 – 357-2400 x4356) or the Special Victims Unit of the Rockland County District Attorney’s Office (845-364-2800).
District Attorney Thomas E. Walsh II said, “We are asking the public if you have been victimized by the defendant or have any information to please come forward and contact law enforcement. While nothing will erase the trauma and grief suffered by a victim, my office is dedicated to getting justice on their behalf and supporting them as they move forward.”
Lewin is currently incarcerated in state prison on a prior conviction in Rockland County. Based upon his current charge, he was remanded to Rockland County Jail. A temporary order of protection was issued in favor of his victim. His next appearance is October 18, 2022 before Judge Schwartz.
