Suffern is a village that was incorporated in 1796 in the town of Ramapo, Rockland County, New York, United States. Suffern is located 30 miles northwest of Manhattan.[4] As of the 2010 census, Suffern's population was 10,723.
Village of Suffern leaf collection continues through Dec. 13th
The Village of Suffern has intensified its efforts to clear leaf piles throughout the area. To expedite collection, the Street Department is working extended hours, including Saturdays, to keep streets clear and safe.
Residents are reminded that loose leaf collection will continue through December 13, 2024, weather permitting. After this date, leaves must be bagged for pickup. To help maintain roadway safety, the Village asks that residents place leaf piles at the curbside, not directly in the roadway.
The Village appreciates the community’s patience and cooperation as crews work swiftly and safely to manage leaf collection. Honoring Sacrifice: Commemorating the 82nd Anniversary of Pearl Harbor Attack

Suffern, NY — On the morning of December 7, 2023, Supervisor Specht, along with local dignitaries and community members, gathered to pay tribute to the events that unfolded 82 years ago at the U.S. Naval Base in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.
December 7, 1941, forever etched in history, marked a turning point for the United States as Japan launched a surprise attack on the naval base. Approximately 350 Japanese aircraft engaged in the assault, resulting in the sinking and severe damage of 18 U.S. naval vessels, including eight battleships. The attack also inflicted destruction on 300 U.S. aircraft and tragically claimed the lives of 2,403 American sailors, soldiers, and civilians.
Supervisor Specht, joined by Suffern Mayor Michael Curley, former Congressman Mondaire Jones, Legislator-elect Jesse Malowitz, Legislator Phil Soskin, Rockland County Clerk Donna Silberman, and Senator Bill Weber, led a ceremony to honor the memory of those who made the ultimate sacrifice on that fateful day.
The solemn event, held in collaboration with the Suffern High School Chamber Orchestra, served as a poignant reminder of the historic significance of Pearl Harbor and the resilience of a nation that rose from the ashes of tragedy. The chamber orchestra added a touch of reverence to the occasion, contributing to the solemn atmosphere.
In commemorating the 82nd anniversary of the Pearl Harbor attack, Supervisor Specht and the assembled officials emphasized the significance of remembering and honoring the lives lost. The ceremony served as a testament to the enduring spirit of remembrance and gratitude for the bravery displayed by those who faced adversity on December 7, 1941, ensuring that the sacrifices made during that pivotal moment in history are never forgotten.
New Hematologist Added to Good Samaritan Hospital

SUFFERN, N.Y. (October 16, 2023) – Good Samaritan Hospital, a valued member of the Westchester Medical Center Health Network (WMCHealth), proudly announces the appointment of Dr. Carrie Brook Wasserman, MD, as the Associate Director of the Bobbi Lewis Cancer Program.
Dr. Wasserman, a highly experienced hematologist/oncologist, is set to enhance oncology services at Good Samaritan Hospital. Mary P. Leahy, MD, MHA, CEO of Bon Secours Charity Health System/Good Samaritan Hospital, expressed confidence in her appointment, stating, “With her impressive credentials, she will make an impact on the care we offer to our patients.”
Before joining Good Samaritan Hospital, Dr. Wasserman served as the Interim Chief of Hematology/Oncology at One Brooklyn Health (OBH), where she was also a core faculty member for the fellowship program. Her role extended to being the OBH site principal for several phase three clinical trials. Dr. Wasserman has held attending positions at Brooklyn Hospital Center, an affiliate of the Mt. Sinai Health System, and the John Theurer Cancer Center at Hackensack University Medical Center. Furthermore, she holds the position of Assistant Professor of Medicine at St. George’s University of Medicine.
Dr. Wasserman’s academic journey saw her earn her medical degree from St. George’s University School of Medicine, following a Bachelor of Science degree from Cornell University. Her training involved an internal medicine residency at Lenox Hill Hospital/NYU School of Medicine and a hematology/oncology fellowship at St. Luke’s Roosevelt/Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. She is board-certified in internal medicine and medical oncology.
The Bobbi Lewis Cancer Program, accredited by the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons, is staffed by a team of dedicated, board-certified oncologists, surgeons, and radiologists. They provide compassionate care to patients in a comfortable and caring environment equipped with the latest medical technologies. The program specializes in various cancer types, including breast, lung, bladder, kidney, thyroid, prostate, head and neck, brain, lymphomas, myeloma, colorectal cancer, gastrointestinal tract cancers, gynecologic cancers, and melanoma. For breast cancer patients, the program offers genetic screening, counseling, and a support group.
